The Big Draw is the national campaign for drawing, a worthy cause for any illustrator to raise awareness of. To that end I was commissioned to create a site-specific piece of art at Oxfordshire's leading art shop on the date of the national launch which, for the first time ever was taking place in Oxford.
A suitable story called 'Escape From Planet No-Dror!' was written and sketched out, a science-fiction tale featuring astronaut and illustrator Commander Drew Starbrush.
The artwork was then drawn onto a roll of lining paper and hung from the window of the shop as each frame was being completed.
It soon became apparent that we'd need to go higher so we de-camped to the next floor up and I carried on drawing.
Time was against me and at the end of opening hours, more than ten metres of illustrations had gone through the window but sadly, Commander Starbrush's fate still hung in the balance. Would he ever Escape From Planet No-Dror?
